"Let us go for a drive"

It happens on the days when your innards want to wriggle out and leave your body behind.
On these days the sun often shines bright
But the looming clouds make you anxious.
A good anxious.
The weather is perfect and you know God resides near to you.

“Cole, turn the car on!
And peel off the top!
(I don’t want any protection from God.)
Drive, Cole!
And play the music that shows us how to feel when we do not know how.”

These are the days when you want to throw all communication away
Because Spring is here to stay.
The flowers in our hair guide our mind.
I will forget the throbbing of my head,
But never will I forget the smiles that we could not hide and the laughs of youth.

Pizza and wings taste better when eaten on a Little Tikes plastic table in a stranger’s backyard.
The cola came from a corner store where everyone was known except for us and “Bill Murray”.
(But that is just the way we like it.)
We spoke of freedom from our fathers, the love in our hearts, and the cows that wouldn’t stop staring at us.
Forgive our screaming, but our hearts were quiet.

This is peace:
The dandelions and the trees,
The music and the flowers,
The pizza and the wings
I hope we will never forget each other and the freedom we felt when the wind kissed our faces and tickled our hearts.
