One of These Days

One of These Days

One day the cold will cut through you

Leaving you broken and bloody on the ground.

The silence will pound in your ears like a thousand kettle drums

Keeping rhythm to the gradual decline of your racing heartbeat.

Ba bum… Ba bum… Ba bum… Ba bum… Ba…

Life is running from you while you frantically chase after it.

A sly smile is all you get from your passing memories.

Oh it knows you can never catch up again.

Don’t forget a friend who was more like a brother.

Don’t forget a camping trip hallowed by the rain.

Don’t forget the things that made you who you are.

Remember… Remember… Remember… Reme…

Do not let your life run too quick, or you will miss so much.

Grasp the cold wind that cut you to pieces

And bind it together to make your own umbilical cord, and then cut it away.

Throw your anchor out and raise yourself up.

The trees will crumble like cookies and fall on your shoulders,

While the walls sprout roots and grow taller and taller.

‘Mother, did it need to be so high?’

“Come back Mother! Love me, Mother! I am sorry! I’m sorry”

But you hear nothing, nothing that doesn’t groan from your own body.

The drummers keep their drumming, but slower now… slower… slower.

It is a cold world and all you have is your own puddle of blood to keep you warm on your dying day.

“God, where are you? I am alone and broken, boiling in my own blood.

Save me! I need you now. I know I’ve run. I know I’ve defied you. I’ve doubted.

God! Help me! Help! Hel…”

It may be too late for you.

Have you been forsaken?

Rise up your spirit and walk about.

Step off the sleeping rock face and fly.

You will feel nothing! But you will also feel everything…

Sit back down and cry your acid rain tears to fertilize your face.

Will you fly and float with the clouds holding the sun in your palm for a ping pong serve?

Or is it too late?

Will you sink – sink below, to the depths where your only friend is darkness?

(You two never really got along anyways)

“But everyone is forgotten eventually… Right?... Right? Not just me?

Goodbye world of cruelty and blessing.

Goodbye world of sorrow and joy.

Goodbye world of despair and hope.

Goodbye world of me and you.

Maybe when you feel goose bumps crawl across your skin for no reason you will remember me.

Maybe when you wake in the middle of the day in a cold sweat

With icicles inching their way down your back, but you cannot remember your dream…

Maybe you will think of me.

Will you remember me?”

The drummers have stopped now and all is silent for you.

All is quiet for YOU, but only for a moment.

Goodbyes have been said and we wonder where you are now.

I’m sure you don’t know either

Maybe once in a while you should look to our little speck and remember

Just as we will not forget you.
